WHY MUSIC LOST ITS COMMERCIAL VALUE, PT. 3

"When it's my time to go, I'll wait for God with my Four Four."
I
wanted to kick off my first article of the year with something that
would really raise a lot of eye brows and shock everybody.
Yes,
catchy, and yes, slick, witty, and all that good stuff, but above all, I
wanted it to be something so controversial, unspeakable, and maybe even
painfully or annoyingly true with the potential to get readers so
pissed off they'll be looking for anyone nearby to slap in an
uncontrollable moment of pure, deep felt fury and rage. Of course I also
wanted it to be so bad they'd be too disgusted to stop reading.
I
wanted it to be something to let the world know I mean business as an emerging writer in 2018 but I also wanted it to be something that's not
as cliche as most of the stuff I've been reading others write so far -
mostly cheesy marketing stuff with only one goal - to make readers click
the link at the end of the article and buy yet another new product for
the new year that somehow we survived without last year but suddenly
need with immediate effect this year. Cheeky salesmen! But that's
another story.
Needless
to say, if you've read this far, you are slowly realising I didn't
succeed in coming up with a catchy headline. In a moment of shame after
spending countless moments at my desk pondering arrogantly as a
philosopher and coming up with absolutely nothing, I remembered the last
rhyme that recently blew my mind, and instead started with that so we
could get straight down to business in 2018 and explore the countless
possibilities why music lost its commercial value and how to fix it
before we all completely lose it.
Engulfed in a dark cloud of sadness and despair, I got to thinking again:
"Why don't artists blow my minds anymore?
Why
is it that everytime I give MTV another chance the first thing I see is
pool parties and drunk maniacs having a good time? Why do they all look
so happy when nobody's buying their records?
Why
is Rihanna's bottocks the first thing I look forward to seeing when
news surfaces about a new release? Why is Beyonce still singing about
boys in the club when she's got two kids? Does she still do that? I
don't know, why have I stopped listening?
Why
the hell do all these rappers keep singing? Why are there so many
amazing new songs out there, right at my finger tips, for free even, and
I just don't want them? Is anything even real anymore? "
... I almost lost it there, before quickly snapping out of it.
Much
like Christmas songs, many new songs on the radio or in the media seem
to be for one thing and only one thing - partying and having a good time
- and that's a good thing, except, I've got other stuff to do as well
and there is whole a lot more than parties and orgies happening in the
world today.
I
listened to pop all Christmas and New Year while I was loaded on eggnog
and spiked punch but I'm back to work and I do it all week - I can't be
thinking about Rihanna or Beyonce right now, I'm focused. So once again
I've taken it back to the old school - Listen here.
In
the spirit of keeping to the initial agreement we made in the first
installment of this collumn - to try to keep each article short, I'd
like to finish here for now, and also take this moment to apologise for
not delivering last week's article as usual - I was NOT parked by the
toilet throwing up eggnog and punch all weekend, but I'm back now.

most basic form. Christie
has made a name for herself writing simple songs that mean the world in
today's world of music and entertainment - she's not focused on making
songs for the clubs or preoccupied with topping the charts, patting herself on the back for being so amazing or following
trends - she's focused on making good music, and that's why her fans
stay loyal as she continues to blaze a trail other artists can't follow or keep up with.
Christie kicked off 2018 with a warm message to fans, and a promise of new music and loads more live appearances to look forward to.
