Released on the 1st of May, only a few days ago, "Slip 'n Slide" is already poised to cause pandemonium following in the footsteps of its predecessor as fans slowly come to realise what can only be described as one of the most authentic sounds pop music has experienced in a very long time. It's available on Spotify, iTunes and all top digital music services. Written in March, shortly after the release of "Michigan", Trevor documented the making of the record along the way. JUST HIT IT

Indie Music Press Releases (May 2018) - Discover the best emerging, underground & upcoming R&B artists, bands & labels with news updates announcing the latest music releases, live events/gigs, concert/tour dates, & other entertainment stories, articles & headlines from your favorite indie R&B performers & entertainers daily on SRL News.

New Jersey, US R&B trio, 120 has been putting smiles on fans faces even long before they started turning up in "Just Hit It" T-shirts. When the band made their debut back in 2012/13 their message to fans was that real R&B music was very much alive and they were here to restore the genre with a fresh new sound of their own while paying homage to its pioneers and also bringing back the R&B group, something that is being missed dearly in today's music landscape. We've all missed the days of smooth rhythms and melodies, super-slow songs, vocal harmonies, passionate solos, excessively long high notes, tapping, finger snapping, humming and whistling, and even matching outfits so it's pretty exciting to see a group that's attempting to bringing all that back, and then some more. They've already brought us singles like "No Love", "4give & 4get", and "Do Something With It" - one of their most recent releases, and they're just getting started.

Their next concert is on the 17th of May, 2018 at the Voltage Lounge in Philadelphia, USA. Full event details and tickets are available on the Skunk Radio Live Events page.

Fomerly known as Maggie Gabbard, Los Angeles, US independent R&B singer, Tate quickly built a following the minute she stepped on to the region's underground music scene owing to her exceptionally compelling vocal tone - innocent yet mildly earthy and sensual at the same time. With singles like "1000 Miles to Go", which was one of her top records even up till today, she has made a name for herself as one of California's top new R&B singers to watch - and she's being watched closedly. Her last single, "Control" was released in 2016 and she has been behind the scenes working on something special since then while making appearances at some of Cali's finest music venues sporadically. Her new record is finally ready and she's putting the finishing touch to a music video which is also due to be released around the same time. Look out for "Ridin", coming to a record store near you soon.

[WEEKLY SPECIAL FEATURE ARTICLE]

WHY MUSIC LOST ITS COMMERCIAL VALUE, PT.4 #KANYE

Discover why music lost its commercial value in this weekly music analysis article exploring to day's music industry from the point of view of fans.
A special feature article by indie writer, The Ghostwriter

After expressing my dismay about the current state of the music industry for a while I took some time out to do some more indepth research - something a lot of people are not doing very much of these days before expressing their opinions on important issues. Yes, I haven't turned up to work for months, and yes, my boss is probably so mad right now he'll probably be reading this with a tightly clenched fist while biting hard on the tip of a fat juicy cigar which he knows he shouldn't light up. Sorry boss.

...But that's another story.

I was shocked last night to see Kanye West on BBC News while checking in to see what new Donald Trump Tweets had got the world furious (Hell no! I don't follow him). Kanye, the self-proclaimed God himself, who has severe problems getting his point across without angering a whole bunch of people is stiring up a whole lot of meaningless controversy again - or wait, that seems to be the aim once again, like most of the time. Much like Trump, who has probably secretely bought a whole bunch of media companies, including newspapers, and a whole bunch of Twitter shares in a bid to gain profitably while tending to what seems to be the world's ever growing desire to hate something new everyday and point the finger at anyone who is doing/saying the least bit wrong even if by no fault of their own. It's a marketing technique that works everytime - highlighting a common enemy is a sure way to get an audience to flock over to you, even if that enemy happens to be you. You only need to do a little online research and think a little creatively or like a crafty salesman to appreciate my cynicism - but what do I know? I'm just a writer, certainly not God.

Now Kanye has 2 new albums on the way so he needs this promotion and in fact those albums will probably do better than any album has done in a very long time. Yes, mainstream music goes a long way for a lot of publicity nowadays and it works everytime. Imagine if record companies put that much time and effort into creating better music.

I wasn't mad about Kanye trying to sell records, that's cool, although I must say, I haven't listened to any of his records since his debut album, "College Drop Out" came out in 2004 and to be honest the reason I got pissed off was that the story almost instantaneously killed the the subtle, mellow buzz I had spent close to an hour trying to achieve - I was peacefully sipping on a glass of Prosecco while reading up on some new music production techniques and some important music stuff at the time.

Everyone has their opinions but frankly, I generally wouldn't get worked up about something Kanye West said about serious world issues, it's nothing personal but I've been on Kanye's Twitter page and for someone who calls himself God he sure might need to work on his grammar a little bit - or maybe he has something again punctuation, who knows. I couldn't understand a damn thing, but then he had thousands of likes so it's probably just me. I personally like to listen to people Gods who can read, write and speak comprehensively. It's so much easier, but that's just me.

...But enough about Kanye's grammar, after all his first album was called "College Drop Out".

Back to the main issue at hand - Trump chipped in, Will.i.am chipped in, everyone's chipping in, so I'm chipping in here. The first thing I'd say is a lot of these guys (the African ones especially) may need to go back to their primary school Social Studies books to when the British arrived in Africa (or maybe they're all refering to different groups of Africans who may have another story - the word African includes a whole lot of people and places). I was a very good student (before I started drinking and smoking, and trying to get to third base as a senior in secondary school), so I remember my Social Studies clearly. It would be much easier to understand the point Kanye was trying to make if they did, maybe he just used the wrong words - but again, who cares?

When the British arrived in Africa, they quickly got on the side of Africans with gifts like mirrors and shiny things. This was back in the day when exchanging goods and services was still a very common way of trading. They apparently didn't come in with guns blazing, they probably came to do business - unfortunately, it is possible that all parties involved weren't fully aware of the terms of the business deal or what it could lead to. Many Africans may have been sold into slavery without fully knowing what they were getting into. What insane maniac would say they were buying slaves if they were in fact doing that? Of course the terms of the agreement may have been sugar-coated to make it seem like a job whereby you can come and go as you please. Who knows what was said exactly? - no one. It seems to have started out as a business deal - seems like that was what Kanye was trying to say, but again, who cares? Lets leave history to historians. I wouldn't even stand by my points because that's not my field of study, and I was taught African history by Africans IN Africa.

As I mentioned in previous articles, the mainstream music industry is straying from the subject of selling records in their promotion campaigns and trying to manipulate fans too much these days with their promotion tactics. They're selling us controversial stories, charitable acts (Drake!), girls in bikinis, fake butts, Ferarris, Gucci, Armani, sex, champagne and everything BUT music.

I'm going back to work researching why music lost its commercial value now - I'm pissed off. Yes, you may not hear from me for a while, or maybe you will, but whatever the case may be, I wish you a wonderful day and a prosperous week ahead, and I thank you for reading this to the end. People don't read anymore, and reading is fundamental. We need more people like you in the world.

Please excuse the typos if you found any. I must confess I lied a little bit at the beginning - Kanye didn't kill my buzz completely. The only way Kanye could kill my buzz was if it was a sample - just kidding, a little Kanye humour to brighten up your day a little more. And hell no, you'll never find a typo when I write - I'm as thorough as they come.
