To be honest, we stopped listening to female rappers since Iggy Azalea and that fake ass butt - for us, it was the height - butt implants? not sexy. It seemed like every single female rapper was a carbon copy of the last from there on, and they all did that thing with their eyes where they looked like they were thinking of something naughty, while pulling on a string of chewing gum in their mouth - definitely wasn't anything one would associate with hip hop - plus it was irritating, and that's not even taking into account the lyrics, good god!
But enough about Iggy Azalea's fake butt.
When Brooklyn, New York rapper, Tamara first stepped onto the region's underground music scene, she was better known as an R&B singer. With tracks like "Pull Them Pants Up" that addressed social issues, "My Photographer" and "Living It Up", she cemented her name in the minds of fans who have followed closely ever since. When she started rapping we suspected she would go all "Nicki" and "Iggy" on us (after all, she's got Bubble in her name, and she's got the butt already - or so we've heard), so we tuned out for a while. This album was released back in January, but we held back on listening. We had fallen in love with her R&B songs so much and didn't want to destroy what we had. But several months later and everyone is still talking about it, we had to listen. And boy did we feel stupid for holding back for so long - it was, ~Amazing~
A little sassy and cheeky here and there, but with a lot of serious stuff and meaningful lyrical content - definitely a step in the right direction for female hip hop and worth listening to, even if just to get the taste of Nicki and Iggy out of your mouth.
